TUSC LANT is one of several Integrated Undersea Surveillance Systems (IUSS) commands under Commander Undersea Surveillance, conducting continuous maritime surveillance for undersea domain awareness.

Commander, Undersea Surveillance (COMUNDERSEASURV) is the staff headquarters of the Integrated Undersea Surveillance System (IUSS). Undersea surveillance is the first vital link in the U. S. Navy’s defense against modern enemy submarines that jeopardize the safe movement of seaborne forces. COMSUBPAC is responsible for administration of Commander, Undersea Surveillance as the global headquarters and single Type Commander (TYCOM) for IUSS. The mission of IUSS is to detect, track, classify and localize submarine, surface ship and aircraft contacts utilizing fixed, mobile and rapidly deployable sensors in specific ocean areas of national interests supporting U.S. and Allied maritime operating forces. A total of 860 Officers, Sailors and civilian personnel are assigned worldwide. Fixed and towed acoustic arrays make a comprehensive web of sensor systems capable of monitoring and updating the changing tactical situation in the Naval Theater for the Task Force Commander. COMUNDERSEASURV establishes directive policies and doctrine and oversees the day-to-day operations of subordinate IUSS commands.

TUSC PAC is one of several Integrated Undersea Surveillance Systems (IUSS) commands under Commander Undersea Surveillance, conducting continuous maritime surveillance for undersea domain awareness. TUSC PAC is manned with U. S. Navy and Canadian Forces personnel and currently has a crew compliment of approximately 300 officers, enlisted and civilians.
